Dr Elizabeth Pollitzer, Portia's director, spoke today at the OXFest (Oxford Females in Engineering, Science and Technology) Symposium. The event's theme was "Why So Slow? Closing the gender gap in STEM". Elizabeth's talk, "If I knew then what I know now", explored strategic decision making in academic career planning. "It is hugely important to understand the science career landscape and how it operates; how institutions organise people, and what are the consequences of career decisions, in particular, during early stages. Your women scientists need to learn how to navigate that landscape and make the career choices that are right for them, and can advance them in the right direction. It was an honour to join a group of eminent scientists and share our expertise with the science leaders of tomorrow." Read more about OXFest their website.
